🇮🇱🇺🇦 Israel & Ukraine. President Trump hosted Zelenskyy and Netanyahu in back-to-back private White House meetings Tuesday.
According to President Zelenskyy, they discussed license for Patriot interceptor production in Ukraine.
PM Netanyahu’s meeting was expected to cover Iran, a US-Israel framework with Lebanon, Gaza, and possible Abraham Accords expansion.
🇷🇺🇺🇦 Russia & Ukraine. The Senate advanced the Graham sanctions bill 86-12, hours after Lindsey Graham’s funeral and with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy watching from the gallery.
The bill targets Russian oil revenue, Russian financial institutions, Putin’s circle, and older “shadow fleet” tankers.
It also lets Trump hit major buyers of Russian oil and gas with tariffs, which means China and India are the obvious pressure targets.
🇨🇳🇾🇪 China & Yemen. China is coordinating directly with Yemen’s Houthis to get Chinese tankers through the southern Red Sea after the group threatened ships using Saudi ports. Since the Houthis announced the July 20 blockade, at least 4 tankers carrying Saudi crude to China have passed through the Bab el-Mandeb.
📌 Context. Bab el-Mandeb allows tankers departing Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea terminals to reach Asia without using the Strait of Hormuz.
🇨🇳🇮🇷 CHINA & IRAN
Shoulder Missile Problem
Iran is reportedly set to receive Chinese man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) within weeks, giving Iran another short-range air-defense layer while it rebuilds from damage inflicted by the US military.
Details
The reported contract covers 300 to 400 shoulder-fired systems, including QW-12 and FN-16 missiles, valued at about $60 million to $70 million.
The weapons are designed to target low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and drones.
They do not solve Iran’s broader air-defense problem, but they could make raids near Iranian military bases, energy sites, and other sensitive facilities more dangerous.
China called the report “completely groundless,” and Iran’s foreign ministry did not immediately comment.
📌 Context. US sanctions in May already accused China-linked networks of helping Iran seek MANPADS.
🇸🇦🇺🇸 SAUDI ARABIA & US
Saudi Joins In
CENTCOM said US and Saudi fighter aircraft struck logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq on Tuesday, responding to more than 30 drone attacks it said Iran’s Revolutionary Guard had directed over the previous 72 hours.
Saudi Arabia said it intercepted drones aimed at eastern oil facilities on Monday and Tuesday, blaming Iran-backed militias in Iraq.
The militias denied involvement, and the Islamic Resistance in Iraq suggested the Houthis were behind Monday’s attacks.
Surprise Attack
Separately, Iran fired multiple ballistic missiles at US forces in Jordan just before the US-Saudi strikes in Iraq. CENTCOM called it an attempted surprise attack and said every missile was intercepted.
The timing was a bit too convenient. Both Netanyahu and Zelenskyy were in Washington, and senior US figures were attending Lindsey Graham’s funeral. Some online suggested Iran was trying to catch the US distracted. A US official said the Jordan attack and the operation in Iraq were unrelated.
